A Smiling Ape

As it has probably become obvious by now, I have a certain fascination-driven love for primates of all kinds. I am fascinated by their bodies and the agility that comes with them. I find their social structure incredibly interesting and that they are so eerily similar to us humans. Or are we like them?
The parallel that apes perform many behaviours like us humans, only broken down to a much more primitive (different, not automatically worse) way, shows me again and again how primitive we humans often are in our actions and desires – and that a complex-thing-spun-around-itself usually has a basic humanish (or animalistic?) core. Apart from all that, monkeys are absolutely freaking awesome swinging casually from tree to tree.

Similar to the work "A Playful Approach", I didn't consciously plan the additional graphic forms here, but the formal language of the monkey did it for me. This resulted in several half-moon-shaped mouths in the lower part of the work, a diagram-like up-and-down (impermanence is the only permanent thing), as well as earrings (a delayed self-confession), as well as tears in the eyes, despite emphasised laughter. But that's just my view of the work and I'm curious to see what and whether other people see something different about it.

Wie wahrscheinlich inzwischen schon klar geworden ist, habe ich eine gewisse faszinationsgeprägte Liebe für Primaten aller Art. Ich bin begeistert von ihren Körpern, ihrer Geschicklichkeit die damit einhergeht. Ich finde ihre Sozialstruktur unheimlich interessant und, dass sie uns Menschen so unheimlich ähnlich sind. Oder wir ihnen?
Die Parallele, dass Affen viele Verhaltensweisen ausüben wie wir Menschen, bloß runtergebrochen auf eine viel primitivere (andere, nicht automatisch schlechtere) Art, zeigt mir immer wieder auf, wie primitiv wir Menschen in unseren Aktionen und Wünschen oftmals auch sind, und dass eine komplexe, um sich gesponnene Sache, meist einen einfachen menschlichen (oder auch tierischen?) Kern hat. Abgesehen von all dem sind Affen auch einfach sau cool, wenn sie sich lässig von Baum zu Baum schwingen.

Ähnlich zu dem Werk „A Playful Approach“ habe ich die zusätzlichen graphischen Formen hier nicht bewusst hingeplant, sondern die Formsprache des Affen hat das für mich ergeben. So haben sich mehrere, halbmondförmige Münder im unteren Bereich des Werkes ergeben, ein Diagramm-ähnliches-Auf-und-Ab (Unbeständigkeit ist das einzig Beständige), sowie Ohrringe (ein verspätetes Selbsteingeständis), als auch Tränen in den Augen, trotz betontem Lachen. Aber das ist nur meine Sichtweise auf das Werk und ich bin gespannt, was und ob andere Menschen, etwas anderes daran sehen.
